have questions about your baby’s Sleep & development?

there are 3 free/low cost opportunities this month for getting support without working with me 1:1:

I offer holistic attachment-based O.T.* for families navigating sleep development and parenting in the early years.

Many parents are working so hard to MAKE sleep happen for their baby, that they end up more exhausted and frustrated than when they started. What makes it worse is parents are receiving such conflicted information about how to SUPPORT sleep, that they work in circles.

That’s why I offer the Baby & Toddler Sleep Course to help you understand how sleep works at your baby’s age, and how to support sleep through a developmental and attachment lens.

You’ll gain an understanding of why sleep challenges happen, how sleep develops, and what practical strategies you can use to support independent sleep over time (without compromising your parenting approach).

My goal of supporting you with holistic, attachment-based sleep is also why I offer one-on-one packages for parents too.

(Book a discovery call to see if we’re a good fit).

* If you are living in Ontario or Alberta, I practice as an Occupational Therapist and can provide receipts for reimbursement through your extended health benefits. For families living elsewhere around the world, I provide support through my non-OT international sleep coach practice.

Parenting is hard!

And when you’re tired and overwhelmed it’s hard to see solutions.

Are you:

🦋 Worried that you’re preventing your child from sleeping independently?

🦋 Frustrated that you can’t find strategies and advice that are a good fit for your family?

🦋 Concerned about bad sleep habits?

🦋 Feeling overwhelmed, confused, and uncertain when you search online for information?

🦋 Worried there’s something wrong with your baby’s sleep?

With the right information and support, you can make confident choices about supporting your baby’s sleep development.

I work with you to reduce the overwhelm by focusing on:

  • evidence instead of opinion

  • what works for your baby and your family, and

  • you and your baby as a dynamic dyad: you know them better than anyone else!

  • manageable strategies that don’t require you to ignore your instincts and responsive parenting values

You can support your baby’s sleep and development with knowledge, confidence and, yes, even joy!

You want to parent your baby in a gentle and responsive way. But you’re exhausted from the night-time wake-ups and you’re overwhelmed by the conflicting information on how to support your baby’s sleep and development.

As a mom to three boys, I empathize! Sleep deprivation feels physically and emotionally painful, and impacts your daily life.

As a registered Occupational Therapist I’ve supported hundreds of parents in navigating infant sleep and development from birth to school-age.

Your extended health benefits may cover my services.

(I have a separate non-healthcare practice for those reaching out to me from outside of Ontario. Please contact me or see www.heatherboyd.ca/familysleepinternational)

You wonder if you’re doing it all wrong…

…even when you know that gentle parenting feels right.

My holistic approach looks at your perspectives on sleep and infant development, as well as on the biology and attachment of sleep and development. I explore how to create an environment that supports babies, and your overall wellness. This means:

  • Understanding what impacts development

  • Implementing small changes, not drastic ones

  • Trusting your baby to develop new abilities over time

  • Eliminating barriers that can make sleep and infant development more difficult

  • Optimizing sleep (your baby’s and your own!) through routines and environment

  • Exploring family factors that can make parenting through the sleep (and other!) challenges easier

By understanding why your baby does what they do (including waking up in the night!), you can support their needs with confidence and make decisions that feel good.

Sleep challenges may be what brought you here,

But it’s only part of your story…

Many families struggle with supporting their baby’s sleep in the first three years. But it’s not just about sleep. A sleep challenge can be be both a developmental process that takes time, and a sign that other areas require support. When we work together, it’s rarely just about sleep: we may also talk about:

  • Understanding infant development

  • Developing strategies for supporting you and your baby

  • Setting up healthy indoor spaces, routines, and activities

  • Working towards parent self-regulation and wellness

  • Exploring everyone’s sleep, including your own and your partner’s.

  • Ruling out contributing factors that get in the way of sleep, wellness, and family function

  • Discovering ways to support infant and child development with simplicity and evidence-based knowledge

  • Discussing the wellness of your family overall

  • Daytime rhythms and routines that support family function and child development

  • Potty training, mealtimes, discipline, and other aspects of parenting and child development

My approach encompasses all of these factors because it is rarely just about sleep.

This is why I offer courses, workshops, and consultations on infant development, parenting, healthy homes, and environmental health. It is also why I work collaboratively and refer to other supports when appropriate including play therapists, parent coaches, naturopaths, osteopaths, chiropractors, psychologists/therapists, and indoor environmental professionals, and building biologists.

I am a frequent speaker at professional conferences and symposiums, and provide education to health care providers and sleep consultants about addressing sleep issues, attachment-based parenting, and environmental health and wellness.

why does it feel so difficult?

Babies haven’t changed much. But the world around them has.

Challenges with infant sleep, and questions about infant development require a holistic, evidence-based, and compassionate approach that acknowledges a family’s strengths, and a child’s uniqueness. It also requires a biological-, and attachment-based approach that does not force change, but rather encourages small shifts in the parenting and the physical environment that create long-lasting, positive changes in child and family development.

I provide assessment, education, and recommendations for supporting sleep and infant development.

I work with families to identify strengths, needs, and options to create environments that are nurturing and healthy for the whole family.

I listen.

I value your knowledge, intuition, and vision for your family, your children, and yourself.

A little help on your parenting journey can make it feel a lot less difficult.
